PADDOPELO
PaddoPelo explored the combination of mycelium with hair waste from hairdressers to create a sustainable and biodegradable packaging material. The projects is made in collaboration with two other students during the masters, Design through new materials. The project aims to offer an eco-friendly alternative to traditional packaging while repurposing waste. We experimented with different types of hair, natural, processed, different diets, and unknown mixes, to see how mycelium would interact with each. Instead of consuming the hair, the mycelium grew around it, resulting in a stronger, more durable material that holds promise for further applications.
In addition to structural testing, we infused the material with herbs like rosemary, lavender, and thyme which are traditionally used for hair growth adding a slight scent to the packaging.
